2012 Subaru Outback

Key Features of the Subaru Outback

Capability and Control.
Take your adventure further. Road-gripping Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive continuously provides power to all four wheels, keeping your tires engaged at all times. You'll have the traction and confidence to go on and off the beaten path. Not to mention, you are able to get All-Wheel Drive without sacrificing fuel efficiency. This means more mountains per gallon.

The Subaru Boxer engine has a low center of gravity for exceptional handling and control. You'll feel the difference through every curve and anything else nature throws in your path.

Throw out the road map. The Subaru Outback has 8.7 inches of ground clearance, making it a breeze to handle almost any terrain. Its 4-wheel independent raised suspension will make any trail you choose a smoother ride.

Convenience.
With seating for five and your four-legged friends, there is plenty of room for adventure. The Subaru Outback offers spacious headroom, legroom and reclining rear seats. Plus, there is enough cargo room to get even further down the trail with pets in tow.

The Outback has eight cup holders for water, snacks and whatever else you may bring with you.

The Subaru Outback carries up to 150 pounds of equipment on its easy-to-reach roof-rack system. When it's not in use, its cross bars fold up and store in the integrated roof rails, making traveling a snap, literally.

Control the conditions with an available dual-zone automatic climate control system with CFC-free air conditioning and cabin air filtration. The optional All-Weather Package includes heated seats, heated side mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer.

What good is an adventure if your furry co-pilot isn't comfortable? A dog guard/compartment separator accessory creates a barrier between the cargo and passenger areas while still offering a great view or squirrels!

Environment.
With the Subaru Outback, you get the roominess and versatility of an All-Wheel Drive SUV without the usual tradeoff in fuel efficiency.

CVT (continuously variable transmission) is available on Subaru Outback 2.5i models. Automatic mode instantly adjusts to meet acceleration requirements, saving fuel and eliminating the need to shift while maintaining vehicle momentum.

Did you know the average family sends more trash to landfills in a day than Subaru does in a year? In our zero landfill plan, 100% of manufactured waster is recycles or reused.

PZEZ-certified vehicles are considered the cleanest gasoline-powered vehicles because they meet California's stringent tailpipe and evaporative emissions standards.

Safety.
Every Outback is designed to help shield its occupants in a collision. Made of high-tensile steel and other high-quality materials, it can maintain its structural integrity and keep the passenger area intact against tremendous force. Its design diverts dangerous impact energy away from occupants to further protect them.

The Subaru Outback includes a frontal airbag system and front-side airbags to protect the driver and front passenger. It also features a rollover sensor to ensure that front and rear side-curtain airbags are deployed if a rollover occurs.

In a front-end collision, the traditional engine block can be sent backward and enter the cabin area. The unique Subaru Boxer engine is mounted low in the body frame. Its low profile tends to move away from the passenger area of the vehicle, making it less likely to harm the driver and occupants.

The energy-absorbing steering column collapses in a crash to reduce injury to the driver. The front-seat head restraints of the Outback shift forward during a rear-end collision, cradling the head to help prevent whiplash.

Accident Avoidance.
Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive continuously provides power to all four wheels, so your tires are always fully engaged with the road. Therefore, if you encounter any of nature's hazards, you're more likely to have the traction to get out of the way.

The Anitlock Braking System (ABS) monitors your wheels for lock-up and helps maintain directional stability. The Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) helps you maintain traction with the road. Brake Assist can sense a panic-stop situation and apply full braking force immediately to help you brake faster.

From asphalt to gravel, the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system on every Outback can help you keep your vehicle in control. It automatically monitors the vehicle's braking, steering and trajectory, so you'll have greater confidence when the terrain becomes difficult to navigate.

The available rear-vision camera provides a clear view of what's behind you. It'll come in especially handing when you're backing out of a tight spot in the city or the forest.

Subaru's Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver when tire pressure is below optimal. Properly inflated tires are critical to proper steering, braking and fuel economy.

Durability.
The unique Subaru Boxer engine produces power with less vibration than other designs and that can help increase its reliability--one reason why 95% of the vehicles we've built in the last 10 years are still on the road today.

The Subaru Outback has a wide range of accessories to protect your vehicle from scratches and dings, including rear bumper cover, hood protector, splash guards, bumper corner moldings and more.

Each Subaru Outback comes with a 3-year/36,000-miles warranty that includes repairing worn brake pads, wiper blades, clutch linings and transmitter batteries. And the power train is covered for five years or 60,000 miles. Plus, 24-hour Subaru Roadside Assistance to help with flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts and other road trip mishaps.

Subaru Added Security extended service agreements and maintenance plans can cover your vehicle for up to seven years or 100,000 miles.

Electronics and Audio.
A 440-watt 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with MP3 playback capability, a 6-disc in-dash CD changer and XM Satellite Radio are all available to help make your Outback even more of a blast.

Every Subaru Outback can play SIRIUS or XM Satellite Radio, offering up to 170 channels of music, sports, news, weather, talk and comedy in high-quality digital sound.

Bluetooth hands-free connectivity is available as part of the premium audio and navigation systems.

The Subaru Media Hub accessory lets you plug a USB mass storage device in to the stereo and navigate its tracks with the stereo's controls.

The voice-navigation system is an 8-inch multi-function voice-activated touch screen that shows a rear-vision camera. You can also enjoy a DVD on the screen when your Outback is parked.
