CHAPEL HILL, NC - February 21,
2012
On Saturday, April 21st, more
than 4,000 runners will participate in the 5th annual Wells Fargo Tar Heel 10
Miler Presented by CEP Compression Sportswear, featuring the Fleet Feet Sports
4+ Mile Run. This year, the race will both start and finish in the recently
renovated UNC Kenan Stadium. The stadium, set in the midst of a wooded area at
the center of the historic UNC campus, has recently undergone renovations that
brought its capacity to almost 63,000 and made it fully enclosed with a
360-degree concourse.
"This event is designed to showcase the best of Chapel Hill, and with UNC's Kenan Stadium being at the heart of the UNC campus, it's the perfect place for runners to gather to start and ultimately cross the finish line," states Steve Lackey, event producer and publisher of Endurance Magazine. "Kenan Stadium is bigger and better than ever and we are excited to see each of our runners experience the thrill of running into the stadium as an athlete versus a spectator!"
John Cody, President of new presenting sponsor CEP Compression Sportswear, is equally excited about being part of this rapidly growing community experience. "We are thrilled to be part of this landmark North Carolina event. With our headquarters located just down the road in Whitsett, NC, the Tar Heel 10 Miler is the perfect venue to showcase our commitment to improving the lives of people across our community."
In addition to its Stadium start and finish, the course will take runners through the UNC campus, downtown Chapel Hill, and through the historic Gimghoul, Greenwood, and Laurel Hill neighborhoods. Along with the ten-miler, the event features a 4+ mile distance presented by Fleet Feet Sports Carrboro. "We at Fleet Feet Sports are happy to partner with an event that values the same things we do - healthy, active lifestyles, and a sense of community," says Tricia White, owner of Fleet Feet Sports Carrboro.
In keeping with Endurance Magazine's mission to support local community organizations through its events, the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA's We Build People Campaign, and the Challenged Athlete Foundation's Operation Rebound Campaign are the charitable beneficiaries of this year's event. Shelley Earp, MD, director of UNC Lineberger, says, "We are always honored when organizations in our community choose to support the cancer center, and particularly when it is an organization like Endurance, which shares our commitment to making North Carolina a healthy place to live." |
