Subaru 2012 Forester Overview

Key Features of the Subaru Forester

Versatility.
The Forester is the perfect balance of fuel efficiency, right-sized utility and nimble drivability. Wherever you go, a 4-wheel independent suspension helps soak up the bumps while Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive will keep you confident in any weather.

The Subaru Forester has room for your needs...and your wants. Flexible space and features help you tackle whatever your day holds. The 60/40-split flat-folding rear seats give you the option to have more cargo room. The larger rear gate makes loading and unloading a breeze.

Whether you're off to the hill, the trail or the river, the raised roof rails (standard on all models except the 2.5X) turn your roof into extra cargo space.

Between the front seats is a center console for your wallet, iPod and cell phone. There is also a handy overhead console for your sunglasses. And, beneath the cargo area floor lies a compartmentalized tray. Plenty of space for whatever you find along the way.

Performance and Handling.
Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) keeps the Forester both stable and agile, from the city to the country and back again.

Forester is the first to feature a newly designed DOHC Subaru Boxer engine, providing a broader power band and even better fuel efficiency. From the 2.5-liter 170-horsepower engine to the turbocharged 224-horsepower engine, every Forester provides a responsive acceleration for almost any driving condition.

The Subaru Forester features a 4-wheel fully independent suspension designed for responsiveness and smooth handling. The satisfying feel in turns is partly due to the double-wishbone rear design, which reads effortlessly to changing road conditions.

Whether the roads are dry, wet, snowy or icy, drive your Forester with confidence. The balance between the Subaru Boxer engine and the road-gripping Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive maximizes your control of the vehicle in all weather conditions. Plus, the Vehicle Dynamics Control system can lend a hand if it senses a potential loss of control by applying brake force to individual wheels and reducing engine power to help you stay on course.

Comfort
You will find yourself in a spacious cabin with an available 10-way power driver's seat and surrounded by comfort-minded amenities. Passengers in back will appreciate the available reclining rear seats. Everyone will enjoy the available over-sized panoramic moonroof.

Choose from automatic or dual-zone automatic climate control for increased comfort throughout the cabin. The All-Weather Package warms you up with adjustable heated seats and clears your view with heated side mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icers.

With eight cup holders, there's one for every passenger--and then some! There are two in the multi-function center console, two in the available retractive rear tray and one in each door panel.

Every Subaru Forester comes with a keyless entry system that also unlocks the tailgate and provides an answer-back electronic chirp. The anti-theft security system includes an engine immobilizer.

Safety.
Subaru ranks among the best in the automotive industry in terms of crash-worthiness. It is the only manufacturer to have all of its vehicles rated as a 2010 "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Our ring-shaped reinforcement frame is designed to shield and protest in a collision. Made of high-tensile steel, it can maintain its structural integrity and keep the cabin intact, diverting that dangerous impact energy away from all your precious cargo.

The Subaru Forester comes standard frontal airbag system and front-side airbags to protect the driver and front passenger. It also features a rollover sensor to ensure that front and rear side-curtain airbags are deployed if a rollover occurs.

In a front-end collision, the traditional engine block can be sent backward and enter the cabin area. The unique Subaru Boxer engine is mounted low in the body frame. Its low profile tends to move away from the passenger area of the vehicle, making it less likely to harm the driver and occupants.

The energy-absorbing steering column collapses in a crash to reduce injury to the driver. The front-seat head restraints of the Forester shift forward during a rear-end collision, cradling the head to help prevent whiplash.

Accident Avoidance.
Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive continuously provides power to all four wheels, so your tires are always fully engaged with the road. Therefore, if you encounter any of nature's hazards, you're more likely to have the traction to get out of the way.

The Anitlock Braking System (ABS) monitors your wheels for lock-up and helps maintain directional stability. The Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) helps you maintain traction with the road.Brake Assist can sense a panic-stop situation and apply full braking force immediately to help you brake faster.

From asphalt to gravel, the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system on every Forester can help you keep your vehicle in control. It automatically monitors the vehicle's braking, steering and trajectory, so you'll have greater confidence when the terrain becomes difficult to navigate.

Subaru's Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver when tire pressure is below optimal. Properly inflated tires are critical to proper steering, braking and fuel economy.

Reliability
The unique Subaru Boxer engine produces power with less vibration than other designs and that can help increase its reliability--one reason why 95% of the vehicles we've built in the last 10 years are still on the road today.

Each Subaru Forester comes with a 3-year/36,000-miles warranty that includes repairing worn brake pads, wiper blades, clutch linings and transmitter batteries. And the power train is covered for five years or 60,000 miles. Plus, 24-hour Subaru Roadside Assistance to help with flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts and other road trip mishaps.

Subaru Added Security extended service agreements and maintenance plans can cover your vehicle for up to seven years or 100,000 miles.

Electronics and Audio.

Every Forester comes standard with a CD player and 4-speaker audio system, while Premium and higher models include standard Bluetooth connectivity, plus a USB port and iPod control capability.

Forester offers new 6-speaker or 7-speaker audio systems. In addition to Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a USB port with iPod control capability, they also include HD radio and a large LCD color display to turn your stereo into a space station.

Make your trip easier with the optional touch-screen GPS navigation system. A 7-inch display allows you to control navigation functions as well as the 6-speaker audio system. Or choose the newly available portable TomTom navigation system that clicks into your vehicle when on the road and pops out when your feet hit the trail!
