Thought I would give you further update on my Subaru ownership.  After 10 days and driving almost 900 miles, I am well pleased with my decision to purchase the Outback Limited 2.5.  The 4 cylinder boxer engine is more than adequate for my driving needs and I am seeing fuel consumption in the range that you indicated during our sales discussion.  My first trip back from the West Jefferson area resulted in 33 MPG even though I was constantly varying my speed during the break-in period that you suggested.  I took the "fuel savings" from the trip and purchased some new fishing shirts while in the Blowing Rock area.

Based on our first impressions of the Outback, my wife is already thinking about the merits of purchasing an Impreza hatchback later this year.  Please keep me in mind when the supply of those vehicles improves.  Best wishes,

"After hearing from a friend how much they loved their Subaru, we decided to do some research and see if one might be right for us. I check the online models at a few of the local stores to see who had what I thought we would like. I eventually requested a contact via two of the stores websites. Let me just say, I was impressed with Performance from the start. Within about a minute, a woman named Shira had called me and told me that the Outback I had selected online was immediately available and asked when my wife and I could stop by to try it out. As soon as I had finished talking to Shira, I received an email from Fred Flack to confirm our appointment for that Saturday and introduce himself as our client advisor. This gave me a lot of confidence.
Things got even better when I got to the store. Fred out the Outback I picked waiting for me and was perfect. I had kind of already knew it was right for us because a friend had let us take a spin in theirs, but after spending some time in a new on and asking Fred some questions, I knew wed made the right choice. The car we bought had just arrived, so I didnt think we could take it home the same day, but to my surprise, they told us we could go grab some lunch and theyd have it detailed, gassed, and ready when we returned, and it was. The pricing was fair. I knew what I thought I wanted to pay and they worked with me. I dont like to haggle and I think they knew that and made things easy.
Fred is a real asset to Subaru. I would recommend him without reservation as well as the Outback. Id never thought of Subaru in the past, but I think I always will from now on. The Outback is as good for going to work as it is for putting our bike on the back and going out to the ATT."

I found Tom, the Subaru service advisor I worked with, to be extremely helpful and friendly. He was happy to help me determine what services I needed done that day on my 2008 Outback. My car was serviced very quickly and was clean whenever I got it back. This has been the smoothest experience I have ever had at service center...I could tell that the people at Performance Subaru knew what they were talking about when it came to Subarus and truly had a passion for the Subaru brand! "I brought my Forester in with the check engine light on. It was an issue with the gas cap which they cleaned up and all was well. No charge for this under warranty visit. Service staff is always curteous and all work is done by trained professionals who know Subarus. Very comfortable waiting area with phone hook up internet, coffee and areas with and without TV. Shuttle service available. Highly recommended!"

"After a botched sales experience at Sport Durst Mazda just down the road, we decided to look elsewhere for our second car back in October 2009. That search led us to Performance Subaru. Sitting in the waiting room today for some routine maintenance reminded me that I've been postponing this review for awhile. It's hard to get excited about auto service b/c most of the work is just done behind the scenes and when your car works...well it works and you don't think twice about it. So fast forward to today and I'm finally giving PS the credit they deserve.

SALES EXPERIENCE: As much as I hate dealing with dealerships, we found our interactions with our internet sales rep (Bill) pleasant, hassle-free and non-pushy. I had a price in mind[1] and we reached an agreement mostly through emails and a couple quick after-work visits to PS including a test-drive. While the price wasn't the most competitive, we appreciated the proximity of PS to us and the no pressure sales. After dealing with Sport Durst, we also found his upfront attitude about dealer fees refreshing for a change. The overall sales experience was about as painless as you could hope for - all fees accounted for and explained to us. Going to finance was equally as painless as we qualified for their promotional 0% rates at the time. Trust me, after being burned at the last place, we instinctively asked about the agreed upon price and the promotional rate.

SERVICE EXPERIENCE: Since then, we have been taking our Subie for all maintenance here. Every experience has been pleasant, courteous and efficient. The same reps seem to work the service dept every visit we've been here. We've been dealing with Gus since day one. So there's a good sense of continuity and low turnover here. Prices seem reasonable and I can't complain too much. Everything is organized and efficient. They keep records of all your past services. If you opted for a pre-paid service plan, they keep track of that as well. You can drop off your car early if you need to go to work. They also have a shuttle service, a well-stocked waiting room[2] for short services, and they offer a loaner car for longer services from what we were told.[3] They take service pretty serious here...and before i left, Gus said, "If you can't give me 9's and 10's on the survey, call me up directly to let me know what the problem was". Maybe it's just show....but I haven't gotten that feeling from him or others we've dealt with at PS so far. This past visit, for some reason I was scatterbrained and couldn't find my house keys[4]. Gus kept an eye out for it and let the mechanics know to look for it when they worked on the car. Totally unnecessary, but cool that he did.

Having a great experience so far with these guys, I would seriously consider their other car makes (i.e., BMW, Porsche) in this auto mall. But for now, my budget only allows me to give my 5 whopping stars to PS for the perfect package in *both* sales and service.

[1] I had researched the prices and incentives available. I also had other internet price quotes from other regional dealers.
[2] Free coffee, water bottles, fig newton bars and wifi. They also have a separate activity room for kids...shielded for both kid friendly and non-kid friendly patrons.
[3] Our services haven't required us to use a loaner car yet.
[4] I swear I'm losing my mind...must be the impending fatherhood thing."

On the day of my service, the place was a like a circus. Performance Auto was having some special extravaganza event featuring classic Chevrolet model cars. Wow! Even with all that going on, the Subaru Service department was on the ball. They got me checked in and made sure I knew where the waiting lounge was. My wait wasn't long at all. Although my car required more service and I have to return on Tuesday. Tim Wilder scheduled my appointment and arranged for me to get a loaner car. He was wonderful. Even one of the customers was very supportive. Though they forgot my 15% discount for scheduling a Saturday appointment, Tim said they would honor it on my Tuesday service appointment. The Subaru Service department made my day! Thanks to all of you! A special thanks to Danny who left a thank you card and mint, with a smile face. Performance Subaru Service department is the best! They know my car and I am very pleased with all of them.

I was leaving town and there was a recall on a part, so I left the car for a 15,000 mile check up and to be detailed. When I returned they had given my total bill a 10% off as I had a coupon for an oil change but their choice of coupons actually saved me more money. I don't drive that much so they always do what is necessary and don't go by the length of time I've owned it. They call when your car is ready. The detailing was great. I felt like I had a new car.
